Crazy Ticket Prices for Opening Day at Yankee Stadium

April 16th 2009 15:19
On Thursday at 1 PM ET, the Yankees play their first regular season game at the new Yankee Stadium against the Indians. There are expecting a sold out crowd for the momentous occasion. I was acually offered the opportunity to go, but I turned the opportunity. You might be asking yourself how somebody can turn down the chance to see the first game at Yankee Stadium. Well I will tell you. I was going to have to pay $210 for a $10 bleacher seat. I couldn't see myself spending that kind of money to just say I was at Yankee Stadium for the first game.

I can go next week when the excitement subsides and spend $20 for the same seat and still get to look around and take in the features of the new stadium. I am a huge baseball fan and would have been great to be a part of the ceremony, but I would rather spend that kind of money on something else, or if I was going to spend that kind of money I would rather have better seats. At many ballparks, you can spend $210 and sit behind home plate and have a wait staff come to your seat and take your order. This is just New York and everything has to be three times more than anywhere else in this country. After spending $210 on your ticket, get a round of beers while you are at it because they went up to $9 a bottle. Don't forget to take out a loan before you go to a game in New York. We have a winning tradition in New York, but the fans sure pay for that tradition.

couldn't agree more.. We've now reached a point here in Boston that if we are even GIVEN free tix to a game, you have to debate going or not. The parking, the beer and food prices at the park... Never mind if you have to actually BUY the tix. It's lousy, and why so many parents just take their kids to the minor league games now. Too bad.

I had to debate on going to a Pirate game last year when I got free tickets.

I think that was understandable. *L*
