First Base Position
April 27th 2008 15:08
Before I get started with this entry, I just wanted to do a follow up to my last blog. Twins P Francisco Liriano was sent down to Triple-A. Hopefully he will find his groove and get back to his old self.
Another topic to discuss is the poor hitting by first basemen. Paul Konerko, Carlos Pena, Carlos Delgado, Ryan Howard, Jason Giambi, Ben Broussard and Adam LaRoche are batting under .200. What is going on with these players? These guys usually hit between .250 and .270 and Ryan Howard has been a .300 hitter. As a manager you expect production coming from that position and there is just nothing there. Ryan Howard and Paul Konerko will get themselves out of this slump but I would question the others. Carlos Delgado's age finally caught up to him. He might be done. His bat is slow and there is isn't any power like there used to be. Carlos Pena had a career year last season so he might be back to his old self. Adam LaRoche hasn't put up good numbers since his days in Atlanta. Jason Giambi has struggled since all the steroid allegations and Ben Broussard is, well Ben Broussard so he will hit some home runs but the average won't be there. From a fantasy perspective I would hold on to Ryan Howard and Paul Konerko because they can only go up from here, but for the others guys I would try to trade Delgado and release the others because their averages will increase but it might take some time and only increase slightly above .200.
