Friday's Key Divisional Matchups

Friday night was the beginning of some important divisional matchups in the American and National Leagues.
White Sox defeated Twins, 10-6
These two teams are in first and second place in the AL Central. The Twins jumped out early with a three-run third inning but they couldn't hold on. Nick Blackburn allowed seven runs in four-plus innings, including a six-run fifth inning. White Sox third baseman Joe Crede went 4-for-4 with two solo home runs. Left fielder Carlos Quentin went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. This was Javier Vazquez's second win against Twins this season. Tonight Livan Hernandez (6-2, 4.81 ERA) will pitch for the Twins while the White Sox counter with Mark Buehrle (2-6, 5.20 ERA). Hernandez has allowed 13 hits in consecutive starts while Buehrle is 20-11 all-time versus the Twins.
Phillies defeat Braves, 4-3, in 10 innings
Last night was Shane Victorino's night. He tripled and scored the Phillies first run, then drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning. The Braves were threatening in the 10th inning but Victorino threw out the potential tying run at the plate. Braves catcher Brian McCann had two RBIs and Tim Hudson allowed one run in seven-plus innings. Tonight Phillies will start Kyle Kendrick (5-2, 5.00), while the Braves start Jo Jo Reyes (2-3, 4.78 ERA). The Phillies have won eight of Kendrick's nine starts.
Angels defeat Athletics, 3-1
John Lackey was impressive last night for the Angels. He allowed one run, a home run in the seventh inning, on five hits in seven innings to go 2-1 this season.
At one point he retired 15 batters in a row. Vladimir Guerrero went 2-for-4 with an RBI. A's starter Joe Blanton allowed three runs (two earned) over seven innings. Jon Garland (5-3, 3.99 ERA) will start for the Angels tonight while the Athletics go with Greg Smith (3-4, 3.56 ERA). Garland is 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA on the road this season and the Angels have the best road record in the Major Leagues going 20-11.
