Jay Bruce Makes Debut
May 28th 2008 04:15
Reds prospect Jay Bruce made his Major League debut tonight going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. The Reds defeated the Pirates, 9-6, after being down 3-0 going into the fifth inning. They were able to add four runs in the inning, including a three-run home run by Adam Dunn, and a combined five more runs in the sixth and seventh inning.
This was the first of many Major League games Jay Bruce will play in his career. The organization plans to keep him in center field for the rest of the season. Bruce is the future of the Reds along with Joey Votto at first base and pitchers Johnny Cueto and Edinson Volquez. Entering Tuesday the team was 23-28 and in the basement of the National League Central. They needed a boost and anticipation has been high around the Cincinnati area for the team's top draft pick (12th overall) in the 2005 draft. Last season he was rated the top prospect in baseball and he was living up to that award hitting .364 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs at Louisville before being promoted Monday. The new era in Cincinnati has begun. From a fantasy perspective add Bruce to your roster because he will help your team in the long run.
