June 8th 2008 13:24
White Sox third baseman Joe Crede had his second straight two home run night as the White Sox defeat the Twins, 11-2. Mark Buehlre pitched eight innings, allowing one run on seven hits. White Sox extended their win streak to five games and are 4 1/2 games ahead of the Twins in the AL Central. Gavin Floyd (6-3, 3.15 ERA) will start for the White Sox as they try to win their third game of this four-game series and Twins counter with Kevin Slowey (2-5, 3.76 ERA).
Angels win their seventh straight game defeating the Athletics, 5-3. Angels pitcher Jon Garland won his sixth game after pitching seven strong innings, allowing one run and striking out eight. Maicer Izturis becomes the third Angels player to lead-off the game with a home run in consecutive days. The Angels are 5 1/2 games ahead in the AL West and go for the three-game sweep this afternoon. Ervin Santana (8-2, 3.02 ERA) will pitch for the Angels as Rich Harden (3-0, 2.61 ERA) starts for the Athletics.
Marlins outfielder Cody Ross and Padres outfielder Scott Hairston each had walk-off home runs last night. Ross hit a 2-run home run off of Reds closer Francisco Cordero and Hairston hit his home run in the 10th inning against the Mets. That was the fourth straight 2-1 win for the Padres. Cordero allowed three runs in the ninth inning after the Reds were able to score three runs in the eight inning to take the lead. Cordero will likely be the next closer to lose his job.
