Jon Lester Throws No-Hitter
May 20th 2008 03:26
Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester pitched the first no-hitter of the 2008 season and the 18th in Red Sox history. He was magnificent, walking only two batters in the 7-0 win. Not only was this Lester's first no-hitter, but his first career complete game. Jacoby Ellsbury made a terrific diving catch in the fourth inning to rob Jose Guillen of a hit. The rest of the outs were routine. This was the Red Sox second no-hitter in as many years. Clay Buchholtz threw a no-hiiter on September 1 against the Orioles. The franchise has had four no-hitters in the 21st century and Jason Varitek has caught every one.
