Monday Preview

There are some good matchups starting Monday, including the series between the Phillies and Diamondbacks where rookie Max Scherzer will make his first career start for the D-backs. He pitched 4 1/3 innings of perfect relief last week against the Astros, retiring all 13 batters he faced and striking out seven. His fastball was clocked in the mid-90s. After his performance the team decided to send Edgar Gonzalez to the bullpen and add Scherzer to the rotation, possibly until Doug Davis returns. I will be watching this game at 9:40 ET.
Red Sox visit the Tigers for a three-game series. Jim Leyland plans to make drastic changes to the lineup. I would think he would leave Curtis Granderson in the leadoff spot because the team has shown improvements offensively since he came back from the disabled list. A suggestion would be to have Miguel Cabrera in the second hole to get on base and possibly move Granderson over if he gets on. The rest of the lineup would look like this
3. Carlos Guillen - 3B
4. Magglio Ordonez - RF
5. Gary Sheffield - DH (more opportunity for RBIs)
6. Edgar Renteria - SS
7. Ivan Rodriguez - C
8. Jacque Jones - LF
9. Placido Polanco - 2B
I'm not sure if you would describe that as drastic but we can see if I am right or close to it. It might not be the lineup but the luck of the Tigers. They keep on playing teams that are red hot. They got swept by the Twins this past weekend and now Red Sox are coming off a sweep of the Rays and they are starting Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is 4-0 with a 2.52 ERA. The Tigers are countering with Jeremy Bonderman (2-2, 3.86 ERA), who has momentum coming off a win in his last start at Yankee Stadium.
Other undefeated pitchers going tonight include Angels' Ervin Santana (5-0, 2.48 ERA) against the Royals and Cubs' Ryan Dempster (4-0, 3.16 ERA) against the slumping Reds.
