Pirates Stay Hot and Roy Halladay Takes First Loss in Tuesday's Action

National 4 Braves 3 – The Nationals only have three wins this season, but Shairon Martis is responsible for two of those wins. Martis allowed three runs in the first inning after a rain delay, but settled down and pitched five scoreless innings. Adam Dunn started a rally in the sixth inning with a solo home run and the team scored two additional runs in the inning to take the lead and the bullpen held the lead.
Pirates 3 Marlins 2 – Pirates won their fourth game in their last five as they defeated one of the hottest teams in baseball for the second straight night. Jeff Karstens allowed one run on three hits in six innings pitched. Freddy Sanchez had three hits, including a solo home run.
Indians 8 Royals 7 – Grady Sizemore had a three-run home run in the fourth and Victor Martinez had a two-run shot in the eight inning to carry the Indians to the win Aaron Laffey allowed only one run in seven innings and was able to record his first win, despite the bullpen allowing six runs in two innings. David DeJesus had a home run and three RBIs.
Rangers 5 Blue Jays 4 – The Rangers were able to rattle Roy Halladay as he allowed five runs and took his first loss of the season. Ian Kinsler’s home run in the seventh inning was the deciding factor. Nelson Cruz hit his sixth home run in this early season. Umpire Kerwin Danley left the game with a mild concussion after being hit with a bat.
Cardinals 6 Mets 4 – The battle of the bullpens went to the Cardinals in the first game of the series. St. Louis bullpen allowed only one hit and no runs in four innings. The Mets had a 4-0 lead early in the game until the Cardinals scored four runs in the fifth. Rick Ankiel snapped slump with three hits, including an RBI and two runs scored.
Giants 8 Padres 3 – Jake Peavy struggled again allowing six runs, including a grand slam to Edgar Renteria in the fourth inning. He allowed three runs in each of his first three starts. Matt Cain outpitched Peavy and improved to 2-0 after allowing two runs in six innings.
