Braves and Phillies begin a three-game NL East battle tonight in Philadelphia. Jo-Jo Reyes is pitching for the Braves and the Phillies are countering with Kyle Kendrick. The Braves snapped a seven-game road losing streak Monday against the Pirates. They have scored 71 runs in 19 road games and 110 runs in 18 home games. Reyes was forced out of his last start after throwing 2 2/3 innings when a blister developed on his left index finger. He is still trying to become a permanant starter in the Braves rotation. Kendrick has thrown at least six innings in his last three starts and his ERA continues to decline. He allowed three runs on 10 hits in six innings Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. The Braves are looking for revenge after the last time they played at Citizens Bank Park in September. They were officially eliminated from the playoffs after a 6-4 loss.
Red Sox visit Baltimore to face the Orioles. Josh Beckett is pitching tonight for the Red Sox against Jeremy Guthrie. Beckett has gone 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA in his career against the Orioles. Guthrie has been inconsistant this season. He went 5 2/3 innings and gave up four runs as the Orioles lost to the Angels in his last start. The Orioles are only 3 1/2 games back from the Red Sox for first place so this series is important for Baltimore.
