Weekend Recap
May 19th 2008 00:53
To all my regular readers I apologize for not posting anything the last few days. Starting this Friday I'm going on a baseball trip where I am visiting five stadiums, starting in Cleveland and going to Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia. I plan to blog the game that I'm attending. Hopefully I will see some good games and some good pitching matchups. Anyway onto the weekend action.
There is still one game that needs to be played but currently the American League is 23-18 in interleague games the last three days. Most of the games were played in National League parks so the National League should be at an advantage without the designated hitter. We can see what happens in the All-Star game but the majority of the talent is still in the American League.
There were some great performances this past week. Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano went 16-31 with seven home runs and 14 RBI and Ryan Dempster allowed no runs and 12 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings Thursday against the Padres. Reds outfielder Adam Dunn has hit a home run in four straight games and helped his team win six straight.
The Reds haven't lost since people criticized them for batting out of order last Sunday against the Mets. Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun signs a long-term deal at the beginning of the week and follows it up with six home runs and 10 RBI. He is carrying the Brewers offense. Dodgers catcher Russell Martin continued to stay on a hot streak, batting over .500 for the week.
Also Cardinals outfielder Ryan Ludwick had three hits the last two days and all of them were home runs.
