What a Difference a Year Makes

On May 14, 2007 this was the AL East standings:
1. Red Sox 26-11
2. Yankees 17-19
3. Orioles 18-21
4. Blue Jays 16-22
5. Devil Rays 15-22
There were really no surprises. The Red Sox were in first place and eventually won the World Series and the Yankees finished in second place and was a wild card team. The Blue Jays ended the season in third place and the Orioles and Devil Rays rounded out the division.
What a difference a year makes. Now on May 14, 2008, there has been an extreme makeover in the division. The new look Rays are in first place after defeating the Yankees, 2-1, in 11 innings on a walk-off hit by Gabe Gross. They have won 11 straight home games and six straight overall. They are playing with confidence, especially the pitching staff. This is the standings going into Wednesday's games.
